Kenya native and New Zealand-based artist Gordon Pembridge creates hand-painted and carved wooden vessels that portray local wildlife and nature.
Pembridge’s inspiration comes from his surroundings and culminates in meticulously hand carved, ornate wood with fern-like patterns, foliage, wild animals, and various natural images.
Through the use of woodturning, a sculpting technique that uses a lathe to shape timber, Pembridge forms the desired shape.
Each vessel is equally inspired by the natural beauty of Kenya and New Zealand. All of the tiny details can only be done with a steady and meticulous hand.
He then finishes off his work by adding bright paint that mirrors the natural landscape.
